Gybing is one way of turning the boat round to sail in a different direction. A gybe is the only alternative way, to a tack, of changing the sails over to sail in another direction. A gybe occurs when you turn the bow of the boat away from the wind. The stern of the boat passes through the wind, the sail swings over your head and away you go. Many capsizes are the result of poor gybing technique (see sailing and racing tips).
